Vintage Raghavan (V.S.Raghavan)
Veteran V.S.Raghavan is not a face which we can easily forget. It’s so unfortunate that some idiots who in the name of mimicry make fun of him by staging some bad words (goyyala etc) though V.S.Raghavan is an actor par excellence. Man with 1000 movies to his credit stood tall in this tinsel world along with Nagesh. Both acted decade after decade while their colleagues of 60’s faded away either due to death or with no opportunities these 2 made their way thru each new wave . Especially Raghavan was acting till his last days and unfortunately I feel he didn’t get the appreciation which he deserved. This man portrayed numerous characters and left a mark in each of them.. Who can forget the strict father in Vasantha maligai or Arrogant father who seeks revenge for his daughter in iru kodugal or helpless father who cannot do anything against his family in Namma veetu deivam and many more.. I don’t care even if some of my FB friends doesn’t like him or not but to me he was a great actor and definitely deserved more appreciation.
Raghavan was born in Kancheepuram district, studied in madras Christian college made his acting debut in 1954 with Vairmalai (who can forget the eternal classic song “Koovamal koovum kokilam with Manohar & Padmini as lead pair). At that time he was into plays and vairamalai was a play as well. So he did the same role when it was made as a film as well. He formed the INA (indian national artists) and our own K.Balachander was also part of it. When Plays got reduced he started his film career in full swing appearing in various character roles.
Raghavan led a clean life without any bad habits lived healthy till the age of 90. Donned variety of roles starting from arrogant rich man to a driver or slave he gels with the character . At times it might look over acting but that’s common from any stage artist.
He was at ease in any of his characters and had no ego which made him work 5 to 6 decades in various roles.
Though he left this world there are few roles which will live for ever ..
